Sultan Qaboos University has launched an electronic system for managing room and hall reservations, under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, the Vice-Chancellor. This project forms part of the University’s digital transformation efforts, aiming to simplify and enhance the management of halls, provide an easy and efficient user experience for the University community, ensure optimal utilisation of academic facilities, prevent booking conflicts, and generate accurate reports to support decision-making.
In the same context, multi-purpose rooms were inaugurated at the Main Library to strengthen its role as a vibrant hub for learning, research, training, and advanced digital services. The project comprises 14 interactive, multi-purpose rooms equipped with the latest technologies, including interactive screens, tracking cameras, and glass writing boards. The rooms vary in capacity to accommodate a wide range of academic and research activities, such as discussions of graduation projects and postgraduate theses, services for students with disabilities, private meetings, the organisation of workshops and remote conferences, support for active learning activities for student groups, job interviews, and brainstorming sessions.
Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Azri, Director of the Main Library, stated that these multi-purpose rooms are exclusively available to all University members and can be booked electronically through the SQU Booking system from Sunday to Thursday during library working hours. The total seating capacity of the rooms is approximately 84 seats, representing a qualitative addition to the University’s academic facilities and enhancing the educational and research environment.
He added that the provision of these rooms constitutes a core part of the Main Library’s strategy to become a dynamic centre for learning and research, committed to offering state-of-the-art technological facilities that support academic and research interaction, thereby contributing to the enhancement of the quality of educational and research outputs at the University.
The launch of this system and the opening of the rooms represent an important step towards improving the academic user experience and providing an ideal environment for focused work and organised group collaboration. They also reflect the high level of professionalism and the strategic direction of SQU and the Main Library.
