05 Mar, 2026 |

The Department of Art Education at the College of Education launched the 27th edition of its annual exhibition on Wednesday at the Exhibition Hall, Deanship of Student Affairs, under the patronage of Prof. Salim bin Hamoud Al-Harthi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Community Service.

The exhibition presents a diverse collection of artistic works produced by students, reflecting an integration of artistic technique with educational purpose. The displayed works demonstrate the students’ engagement with a variety of materials and contemporary artistic practices that emphasise creativity and innovation.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Salman bin Amer Al-Hajri, Head of the Department of Art Education, highlighted the department’s philosophy in teaching art, noting that artistic practice should go beyond representing the outward appearance of objects to exploring their deeper meanings. He emphasised that the department encourages students to develop creative approaches that move beyond imitation towards experimentation and originality.

What distinguishes the exhibition is its strong educational dimension. The participants are not only artists but also future art educators. The department aims to prepare teachers who possess both artistic and pedagogical skills, enabling them to transfer creative knowledge and aesthetic awareness to school students and future generations. Dr. Al-Hajri also noted that the department has long played an important role in supporting the visual arts movement in Oman.

The exhibition features works across a range of artistic fields, where students, particularly those in their graduating year, demonstrate a high level of maturity in their artistic practice and their engagement with visual expression. The works reflect an aspiration to contribute to enhancing aesthetic appreciation within society.

The annual exhibition represents an important platform for students to present their artistic experiences and creative outcomes. It also reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to linking artistic practice with educational and social values, while strengthening the relationship between academic learning and the visual culture of the Omani community.
