The Deanship of Postgraduate Studies organised an orientation meeting for postgraduate students for the 2026/2027 academic year, under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda bin Majid Al Said, the Vice-Chancellor, in the presence of faculty members, administrative staff and new students. The meeting aimed to familiarise students with the academic environment, services and facilities available to researchers.
The event was held at the Conference Hall. It featured a comprehensive programme that began with a presentation highlighting the services and facilities provided by the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies. This was followed by a speech by Dr. Sulaiman bin Dawood Al-Sab’ei, Dean of Postgraduate Studies, who offered guidance to students and emphasised the role of postgraduate studies in moving students from receiving knowledge to producing it and creating an impact.
Dr. Al-Sab’ei said: “The University is expanding its programmes in response to the growing demand for postgraduate graduates. We currently offer 124 postgraduate academic programmes across the colleges, including 47 doctoral programmes, 74 master’s programmes and three postgraduate diploma programmes. This year, 989 postgraduate students have been admitted, including 175 international students. Of these, 810 have joined master’s programmes and 179 doctoral programmes.”
The programme also included a presentation entitled “A Student’s Journey”, which showcased inspiring experiences of former students and the challenges they overcame during their academic journeys.
On the sidelines of the meeting, His Highness the Vice-Chancellor launched the first issue of Nitaj magazine, a pioneering digital initiative by the Deanship. The magazine serves as a platform to showcase the scientific and intellectual output of postgraduate students and highlight impactful applied research that serves the community.
The magazine focuses on presenting the scientific achievements of postgraduate students in accessible language, highlighting research and projects that offer practical, real-world applications that serve the community and contribute to knowledge development. It aims to showcase the output of nearly 500 postgraduate researchers each year. Its main objective is to publish at least six scientific and media reports annually, focusing on high-quality research linked to national priorities, the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, and the outputs of SQU. The magazine also seeks to provide a digital platform for building an interactive academic community that brings together master’s and doctoral students, academics, universities and government entities concerned with scientific research.
