Sultan Qaboos University inaugurated the Majors Fair 2025 under the patronage of Her Excellency Ibtisam bint Ahmed Al Farooji, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Investment Promotion, and in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, the Vice Chancellor. The opening ceremony took place at the Grand Hall of the University Cultural Centre. The three-day event runs daily from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.

The fair was organised by the Centre for Career Guidance in collaboration with the University’s nine colleges, showcasing a wide range of academic disciplines to students and visitors. It also features the participation of the Deanship of Admission and Registration and the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies, aiming to raise students’ academic awareness and familiarise them with opportunities for higher education at the University.

The fair seeks to deepen students’ understanding of the available majors, associated skills, and career pathways. It also supports them in making informed academic decisions and planning successful educational journeys. In addition, it serves the wider community by inviting career guidance specialists from schools across Oman.

This year’s edition features comprehensive information on 62 undergraduate majors, catering to new students selecting their fields of study, those wishing to transfer or change their majors, as well as students from other higher education institutions.

The fair also welcomes school students from Grades 10 to 12, parents, and interested visitors, offering the community valuable insights into the University’s diverse academic programmes and opportunities.

Accompanying the main exhibition are several awareness-raising booths, notably featuring the Omani Society for Human Resources Management (OSHRM), Khuta platform for career counselling, and the National Employment Programme (Tashgheel).

The event includes panel discussions and workshops led by experts and professionals from various sectors, enabling students to explore labour market trends and engage with industry expertise. Each college will also issue a booklet titled Majors and Careers, providing an overview of its academic programmes.

Organisers emphasised that the Majors Fair reflects SQU’s commitment to aligning academic programmes with labour market needs and enhancing students’ awareness of the importance of early career planning in line with Oman’s national development goals.
