The Deanship of Postgraduate Studies has organised an induction meeting for postgraduate students for the academic year 2025–26. The event aimed to familiarise students with the University’s regulations and services, while also highlighting the wide range of facilities designed to support their academic journey.
In his address, Dr. Suleiman bin Dawood Al Sab’ei, Dean of Postgraduate Studies, congratulated the newly admitted students, emphasising that their enrolment marks an important step in their scientific and research journey towards achievements that benefit society. He added: “We welcome you to this esteemed academic institution, which since its establishment has contributed to building the nation’s human capital, aligning its academic programmes with national development priorities and institutional needs, while maintaining international standards and best practices.”
Dr. Al Sab’ei reaffirmed that the university’s strategy is closely aligned with Oman Vision 2040, expressing confidence that the talents and abilities of students will play a key role in advancing the University’s progress. He stressed that SQU, in collaboration with its colleges, is committed to providing the highest quality of education and ensuring an exceptional learning experience.
He also encouraged students to engage with their peers from friendly countries and embrace diverse academic and cultural environments, noting that the exchange of knowledge and skills enriches their academic journey. He added that the university continues to develop its programme design, supervision, and assessment processes in line with scientific developments and international standards, while also enhancing the use of modern technologies across academic procedures.
The Dean highlighted that the university currently offers 121 postgraduate programmes across its colleges, including 45 PhD programmes, 73 master’s programmes, and 3 higher diploma programmes. This year, 838 students have been admitted, comprising one in the higher diploma, 710 in the master’s programmes, and 127 in the PhD programmes.
Dr. Al Sab’ei further underscored the importance of postgraduate students becoming familiar with the Academic Regulations, the Supervision Guide, and the Policy on Academic Misconduct to ensure academic integrity. He also encouraged them to take part in the training workshops offered by the Deanship in areas such as research methods, data analysis, referencing, and statistics, with 32 workshops delivered last year alone. Students were likewise urged to participate in scientific competitions that foster innovation and excellence, including the “Three Minute Thesis” competition, the award for best thesis, and the award for best student research paper.
The event also featured an exhibition with contributions from various departments of the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies, the Centre for Omani Studies, the Deanship of Research, and the Main Library, showcasing the services and facilities available to students throughout their studies.
