SQU Launches its New Media Identity

The Public Relations and Information Department at Sultan Qaboos University launched its new media identity at a function held under the patronage of H.E. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Rowas, His Majesty’s Advisor for Cultural Affairs today. On the occasion, the new media publications of the Department that includes the monthly newsletter in English ‘Imprint’, the monthly newsletter in Arabic ‘Iqra’ and the online news portal ‘Anwaar’, were launched.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ali Huwasheil Al Shuaili, SQU Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administrative & Financial Affairs, said that the continued efforts of the Department of Public Relations & Information in the past have helped to boost the image of the University among the public within and outside Oman. “As the media field is witnessing rapid developments, it has become our responsibility to keep abreast of the changes and update our resources and services. The Public Relations and Information Department, through its publications, radio and television programs and social media networks, has opened wide horizons of dialogue, discussion, exchange of ideas, information and interaction on various issues, studies and research. The Media wing of the Department has succeeded in placing a prominent position to the university in the local and foreign media by providing various forms of content with the participation of academics and students at the university”. He thanked all the media organizations including the press, radio and television channels in the Sultanate and abroad for their continued patronage in publicizing university and its achievements.

The logo of the Department of Public Relations & Information at conceives the attributes of practicality, clarity, brevity, simplicity and modernity. The design and the shape of the logo combines features such as the first letter of the Arabic alphabet (alef/ ا) which is included in the names of its publications (Iqraa/ إقرا), (Anwaar/ أنوار) and the English letter (I) in ‘Imprint’. The logo carries in itself the shield symbol in the University’s logo, as well as the symbol of a dip pen.

The line depicted in the logo emphasizes modernity, clarity and powerfulness that stand for the Department’s mission, which seeks to be simple and clear without complexity or ornamentation in its messages to the public.

Jamal Said Al Riyami, Director of the Department of Public Relations and Information said that the new media identity seeks to develop and maintain a positive and interactive media content on scientific and methodological bases and that is compatible with the vision, mission, values and goal of Sultan Qaboos University.

“We seek to develop and provide updated media content, focusing on the stories and experiences of the stakeholders who are associated with the institution and includes students and employees. It is our goal to consolidate the principle of partnership with governmental and private institutions, locally and internationally that serve the academic process and research at the university. We hope that the new media identity would help to increase the affiliation of the graduates to their alma mater”, he said.
