Conference Deliberates on Teaching Math in Special Education
The International Conference on “Trends in Innovative Mathematics Curricula: Highlights on Teaching Mathematics in Special Education” that coincides with the “Oman Mathematics Day 5” organized by Oman Mathematics Committee commenced at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) on Tuesday, 19 November 2019.
Dr. Magda Talib Al Hinai, Chair of Oman Mathematics Committee said that said that the Committee was formed in 2011 due to the increasing awareness within the sultanate of the importance of mathematics and its roles in life. The aim of the Committee is to activate the scientific and education movement in the field of mathematics within the Sultanate. Oman Mathematics Committee is affiliated to International Mathematics Union (IMU) to benefit from the activities of this organization and document the efforts of the sultanate in mathematics education in international forums. “Oman Mathematics Committee’s efforts over the past years have resulted in the creation of a comprehensive profile of mathematics activities in the Sultanate through the formation and implementation of events across the sultanate. Oman Mathematics Day annual conference is the most important annual activity”, she said.
Dr. Mohammed Said Al Ghafri, Chair of the organizing committee of the conferences said that the conference includes 14 scientific papers and 9 parallel workshops on teaching mathematics in special education and the use of latest technologies in teaching math. The conference features eight keynote speakers from Oman and abroad. It will last until 21 November.
