The project was recommended by the Education Council. The research team consists of members from different units and institutions relevant to the education sector.
This national project seeks to assess the phenomenon of aversion to the teaching profession in the Sultanate of Oman, especially by males. The project will investigate the causes and develop a national framework to reduce the tendency of teachers leaving the profession. The project targets different groups in the Omani society which include decision makers, teachers, students from higher education institutions, students at grade 10,11,12 and parents.
It aims to analyze the policies, documents and laws that regulate the recruitment process of teaching profession in the Sultanate, and to benefit from the Ministry of Education’s statistics of teachers’ ratios at different education stages. In addition, a number of countries will be visited to learn about their experiences in this field.
Dr. Khalaf bin Marhoon Al-Abri, Assistant Professor at the Department of Educational Foundation and Administration and head of the research team said, the project is important in serving the educational system in the Sultanate, and it has a strategic dimension in obtaining the high qualifications of the Omani teachers. It is hoped that the project would contribute to the development of a national framework to attract young people towards the profession of teaching, especially by males.
Five teams, including the school team, the statistics and documentation team, the country expertise team, the policy makers’ team and the higher education institutions’ team, are also involved in this project.
