Sultan Qaboos University held the formal opening ceremony of the University Tower Hall under the patronage of H.E Dr. Ali Bin Saud Al Bimani, the Vice Chancellor of SQU. The Hall of the University Tower will contribute to serve the activities and events of the university community by making use of this space in the University Tower premises.

The ceremony also included the launch of the book "Al Masirah" (The journey), which displays the University's evolution during the period 2008 from 2018. The book contains five chapters, the first chapter about teaching & learning and the academic decision making and strategic plan 2020-2040, in addition to the university environment. The second chapter deals with scientific research, scientific publishing and innovation. The third chapter deals with community service and university’s achievements in various fields including research, education, culture, sport, etc. The fourth chapter of the book is about the economic growth, which elaborates on the financial and human resources, and the developmental projects. The last chapter of the book deals with international classification, academic accreditation and international cooperation.

It is worth mentioning that the construction of the University Tower began in November 1996, and the design of the tower was inspired by the shape of the traditional Omani coffee pot. The area surrounded the base was designed to be a space for the university students to sit during their breaks. The artificial waterfalls of the tower was designed with identical and precise levels, which helps the water fall equally and simultaneously from the four sides of the tower, and the art of mosaics that decorated the tower has embodied the features of Islamic cultural heritage.
