As part of the ongoing implementation of the research project “Quantifying the Economic Impact of Road Traffic Injuries, Disabilities and Deaths on Individuals and Families in Oman”, funded by His Majesty’s Trust Fund for Directed Strategic Research Programme and conducted in close collaboration with partner institutions, the project team held a dedicated workshop at the headquarters of the Financial Services Authority (FSA). The event brought together representatives from leading insurance companies across the Sultanate of Oman.

The workshop opened with a welcome address by Hashil bin Sulaiman Al-Salhi, Director of the Consumers and Policy Holders Protection Department at the FSA, who outlined the financial consequences of road traffic accidents and underscored the national importance of addressing them through evidence-based approaches.
Dr. Amira bint Khamis Al-Aamri, Principal Investigator of the project, then presented the project’s vision, national relevance and structured three-year roadmap, highlighting its phased approach towards tangible outcomes and policy-oriented recommendations. She also emphasised its alignment with the Oman Vision 2040 and the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety.

The programme included a further presentation by Mazin bin Yusuf Al-Sarhani, titled “New Amendments to the Unified Insurance Policy: New Benefits, Greater Protection”, which examined key regulatory developments. These included the introduction of natural disaster coverage, improved compensation timelines and enhanced dispute resolution mechanisms for vehicle owners in Oman.

The workshop concluded with an open discussion that encouraged constructive dialogue, reinforcing the collaborative effort underpinning the project and its aim of informing national road safety policy.
