2025 Nursing Informatics Forum: From Innovation to Implementation

29 Apr, 2025 |

The College of Nursing held the 2025 Nursing Informatics Forum at the College’s premises. Organised by the Department of Adult Health and Critical Care and led by Dr. Nasser Al-Salmi, Head of Department, and Dr. Diala Al Tawalbeh, Assistant Professor, the event showcased the role of student-led digital innovation in transforming healthcare practice. The forum served as a platform for nursing students to present innovative, technology-driven projects that link academic knowledge with real-world clinical application.

This initiative directly supports the Oman Vision 2040 by enhancing digital competencies among healthcare students and encouraging collaboration between academia, industry, and government. More than 100 nursing students participated, presenting eight digital health solutions aimed at addressing current healthcare challenges. Their work reflects a strong commitment to improving patient care through informatics and innovative thinking.

Throughout the day, attendees engaged with keynote sessions on digital transformation in healthcare, followed by student presentations of their projects. The forum also included an industry networking session that encouraged partnerships and mentorship opportunities between students and professionals from healthcare institutions, technology providers, and government entities. A highlight of the event was the awards ceremony, where the top three projects received development grants to support implementation in clinical settings.

The forum not only celebrated student achievement but also aimed to strengthen collaboration between higher education and the healthcare sector. It brought together over 20 faculty members and more than 30 academic and industry professionals, including healthcare informaticists, hospital IT staff, health-tech companies, and representatives from SQU’s College of Engineering, College of Science, and the Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre.

By promoting the integration of digital technologies in nursing education and practice, the 2025 Nursing Informatics Forum contributes to the ongoing transformation of Oman’s healthcare sector. The event reaffirmed SQU’s commitment to nurturing future healthcare professionals equipped with the skills, knowledge, and innovation mindset needed for a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
