SQU Receives Houston-Clear Lake Delegation

Sultan Qaboos University represented by the Department of Archaeology, College of Arts and Social Sciences received a delegation from University of Houston-Clear Lake. The two sides discussed proposals on enhancing the educational and research cooperation in the field of archaeology and cultural heritage, exploring the possibility of exchanging experiences in the field of museum studies and the possibility of developing a working mechanism.

The delegation included  Dr. Maria Curtis, Director of Anthropology and Cross Cultural Studies and Dr. Dawit Woldu. Dr. Khaled Douglas, Head of Department of Archaeology and number of administrative staff from the College of Arts & Social Sciences received the delegation at SQU. The delegation visited Dahwa archaeological site, which is supervised by the Department. Five archaeological sites dating back to the Umm al Nar era between 2500 and 2000 BC have been unearthed from Dahwa archaeological site in the wilayat of Saham. These sites are considered to be the oldest archaeological finds in northern Sultanate.
