National Bioethics Committee Holds Second Meeting of 2025

The National Bioethics Committee held its second meeting of 2025 this morning at the University Council Hall, chaired by His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, the Vice-Chancellor and Chair of the Committee, with the attendance of the committee members.

His Highness opened the meeting by expressing his appreciation to the members for their active presence and valuable contributions.

The meeting agenda included discussions on several important topics, most notably the presentation of the National Document on Ethical Issues Related to Reproduction among Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, which will be submitted to the relevant authorities for approval.

The committee also reviewed preparations for the Fourth International Bioethics Conference, scheduled for early 2027 under the theme “Ethics of Modern Healthcare”. Members received a briefing on participation in the intergovernmental meeting concerning the draft recommendation on the ethics of neurotechnology, in which the committee was represented by a specialist member.

Additionally, the committee reviewed the contents of its upcoming official website, which will be launched at a later date and will feature the committee’s events, activities, and published documents.

As part of the follow-up report, the committee discussed recent developments related to the proposal for ethical clearance of research, ethical concerns surrounding the collection and storage of human sperm, and the protocol on brain death.
