Abdullah Sulaiman Al Wahaibi, a graduate from SQU who specialized in Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been selected as a Recipient of the 3rd Student Awards for the Advancement of Post-Graduate Education in Oman for Masters Category. The Award recognizes outstanding Masters and PhD students in Oman for their exceptional research achievements.
The Student Awards for the Advancement of Post-Graduate Education in Oman recognize outstanding young Omani individuals destined to be the country’s future industry and academic leaders, who will contribute to building Oman’s knowledge economy as set out in the Sultanate’s Vision. This pioneering award recognizes role models and is focused on celebrating the importance of building post-graduate education capacity in Oman. These are non-monetary Honorary Awards presented to distinguished individuals in recognition of their exceptional academic commitment and achievement at Post-Graduate level. The Award was presented in front of Oman’s senior energy stakeholders from Industry, Government & Academia at the Oman Energy Forum on 25 November in Muscat.
Earlier, Al Wahaibi’s Master’s thesis has been accepted and approved in The 7th Brunei International Conference on Engineering and Technology 2018 (BICET 2018) held in Brunei Darussalam, and published in the IEEE international website.
Abdullah Al Wahaibi is currently a Business Relations Manager in Oman Broadband Co., which provides and maintains a broadband infrastructure for national service providers. Abdullah holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Electrical & Computer Engineering, specialized in Power Systems & Energy from Sultan Qaboos University.
In his M.Sc. thesis, Al Wahaibi investigated the energy saving potential in the Main Interconnected System (MIS) of Oman’s residential buildings and evaluated its impact on generation capacity addition and energy requirement. He assessed and evaluated the suitable, feasible and effective Demand Side Management (DSM) measures that achieved substantial reductions in peak demand and electricity consumption in the residential villas and houses. The results have shown a good energy saving which reaches up to 21.5% by using energy efficient designs for the houses and critical appliances such as air conditioning and lighting. The study also estimate environmental, transmission and distribution costs saving. The results of the study reveals around 4.6 billion US dollars benefit for the coming 25 years.
