The Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) program of the College of Law at Sultan Qaboos University has been accredited by the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) for five years. FIBAA is a European, internationally oriented agency for quality assurance and quality development in higher education. The LL.B. program at SQU has been granted accreditation by the agency from 26 June until the end of spring semester 2024.

The LL.B. program SQU intends to provide students with the necessary qualifications to practice legal profession (e.g. judges, lawyers and legal consultants) in Oman and the globe. The program aims at giving a general education in the field of Law to enable students to hold any position in the legal sector. Hence, the curriculum of the program is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to compete in the national and regional job market. The Bachelor program equips students for a career in law through solid theoretical foundation of legal concepts and legal reasoning combined with practical applications and implementation. Students are provided with the necessary academic and practical skills, and professional training to immediately start a career in law in Oman and anywhere in the world.

The College obtained academic accreditation from the FIBAA Foundation after implementing a number of procedural steps, which the College first started by drawing up a roadmap for academic accreditation (2016-2020). The first step was to visit the corresponding colleges in the Arab world that obtained academic accreditation to learn about their accreditation experiences. The FIBAA was then chosen to supervise the academic accreditation process. The College started to meet the requirements of the International Accreditation Standard immediately after the signing the contract with the accreditation institution in October 2018. A number of programs and training workshops was conducted, followed by preparation of self-study report and other documents in accordance with the directives of FIBAA. A team of experts from FIBAA visited the college on 8 and 9 of April 2019. The team was briefed on the capabilities of the college and the university. The team held meetings with the university administration, faculty and advisory board of the college, professors, students and graduates of the college and employers.

The report was published on the website of the Foundation (FIBAA). The report reflected the college’s compliance with all international accreditation requirements. The College was able to excel in eight international accreditation standards and quality requirements.

According to the summary of the accreditation report, the LL.B. program of SQU exceeds the quality requirements for FIBAA accreditation in many criteria. These include positioning of the study program within the University’s overall strategic concept; student support by the faculty; process organization and administrative support for students and faculty; quantity, quality, media and IT equipment of teaching and group rooms; and, career counselling and placement service. The College performed exceptionally well in the criteria of availability of resources, references and database in the field of law (Access to Literature).

FIBAA was founded in 1994 and has more than twenty years of experience in the field of quality and accreditation. FIBAA is based in Bonn, Germany, and operates under the umbrella of the German Accreditation Council. It is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education  (ENQA) and a recognized organization of the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education  (EQAR). The FIBAA has accredited more than 1,700 academic programs and has a network of about 500 experts representing more than 20 countries.
