Enhancing Academic Cooperation Among Law Colleges in Oman
Law colleges in the Sultanate of Oman held an expanded meeting, in the main meeting hall of the College of Law at Sultan Qaboos University. The meeting
focused on strengthening joint academic cooperation and raising the quality of educational outcomes to meet modern requirements.
Dr. Saleh bin Hamad Al-Barashdi, Dean of the College of Law, started the meeting with welcoming speech and emphasised the importance of integrated work and the exchange of perspectives to develop law programmes in Oman. This aims to ensure of qualifying highly efficient graduates who meet the needs of the labour market.
H. E. Saleh bin Yahya Al-Maskari, Chairman of the Omani Committee for International Humanitarian Law, reviewed the frameworks for cooperation between the committee and law colleges in the Sultanate of Oman. Further, he called for the inclusion of specialised courses in international humanitarian law within the curricula to keep pace with changes and developments on the regional and international levels.
The meeting addressed several strategic themes for enhancing the quality of law education, most notably: exchanging experiences and successful practices among universities to develop students’ skills, guiding student research towards addressing contemporary legal issues, mechanisms for activating legal clinics to promote practical and field training; and reviewing colleges’ experiences in academic accreditation and programme inclusion within the National Qualifications Framework. At the end of the meeting, participants agreed on establishing clear operating mechanisms to ensure the sustainability of cooperation among law colleges in the Sultanate of Oman.
