3rd Research Day: Research Insights for Business and Innovation’s Future

The College of Economics and Political Science organised the Third Research Day, with wide participation from faculty members, staff, and postgraduate students. The event was held as part of the College’s commitment to promoting research and enhancing its outputs in line with national development priorities.

 

This year’s event was held under the theme: “Advancing Excellence in Research: Artificial Intelligence, Innovation, and the Impact on the Business Sector.” It coincided with the SQU’s University Day celebrations, during which the College highlighted its key achievements in teaching, research, institutional partnerships, and international collaboration. The event also featured strong participation from postgraduate students, who presented distinguished research papers.

 

The programme included three main components: Research presentations by postgraduate students shortlisted for the Best Research Presentation Award, a training workshop on developing consultancy proposals, delivered by an expert from PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers), a keynote session on publishing in top-tier (FT50) journals, delivered by Professor Massimiliano Morcellino from Bocconi University, Italy, an editor of a leading econometrics journal.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Al-Mukhtar bin Saif Al-Abri, Dean of the College, emphasised that research has become a core pillar of the College’s mission. He highlighted the significant progress achieved in both the quantity and quality of publications, the expansion of research collaborations with local and international institutions, as well as the success in securing prestigious research grants and undertaking consultancy projects that serve the community.

The Dean also noted the College’s strategic focus on priority research areas aligned with Oman’s national development agenda, including logistics, financial technology, entrepreneurship, tourism, and digital transformation, stressing the importance of strengthening the link between research and practical application.

 

The event concluded with the recognition of PhD students who won the Best Research Presentation Award, along with appreciation for all participants and contributors to the success of the event, reaffirming the College’s commitment to achieving further excellence in research.
