The Council reviewed updates on SQU’s progress across various areas, as well as the implementation status of decisions and recommendations issued during previous meetings.
In light of the rapid transition towards a data-driven digital economy, and the growing need to prepare national talent capable of analysing and utilising data to support decision-making and enhance institutional competitiveness, the Council approved a new academic programme titled “Bachelor of Science in Business Analytics” at the College of Economics and Political Science. It focuses on developing skills in quantitative analysis, critical thinking, the use of modern technologies, and data-driven decision-making.
As part of fulfilling the regulatory requirements stipulated in the Sultan Qaboos University Law, issued by Royal Decree No. 19/2024, the Council also discussed a number of internal regulatory frameworks related to academic leadership appointments and other matters concerning faculty members, in a manner that enhances institutional governance practices within the University.
The Council further reviewed the University’s efforts and readiness in meeting the requirements for the renewal of institutional accreditation from the Oman Authority for Quality Assurance of Education, building on the accreditation previously obtained in 2019. This renewal reflects the University’s commitment to continuous improvement and development.
The Council commended the efforts made across various fields and emphasised the importance of proceeding in accordance with the University’s plans and ensuring their effective implementation.
