Sultan Qaboos University celebrated the graduation of postgraduate students and the students of the scientific colleges, in a ceremony held at the Amphitheatre under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Saidi, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs. The event was attended by a number of Their Highnesses, Excellencies, and members of State Councils.
The ceremony opened with the national anthem, followed by a speech delivered by His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, Vice-Chancellor. His Highness congratulated the graduates and described the occasion as a celebration of “the fruits of perseverance and diligent effort.” He emphasised that the years spent at the university represented not only the acquisition of knowledge, but also “a reshaping of identities, a refinement of perspectives, and a discovery of talents and capabilities.”
His Highness further reminded graduates of their responsibility to contribute positively to their workplaces and communities, urging them to look to the future with optimism and integrity. He also expressed deep appreciation to families and parents, whom he described as “the supporting hands and intertwined hearts behind every achievement,” as well as to the university’s faculty and staff and the national institutions that supported student training and research.
Following this address, Fatma bint Mohammed Al-Zidi from the College of Science delivered the graduation speech on behalf of her peers. She reflected on the journey of the graduating class, describing their university years as a chapter filled with “life’s greatest lessons and the most beautiful moments of learning and growth.” Speaking with gratitude, she said that SQU had instilled in them values, shaped their character, and opened for them wide horizons of knowledge.
Al-Zidi highlighted the academic and personal transformation experienced by the graduates, noting that they had learned discipline, research, critical thinking, and innovation, while absorbing from their professors the values of sincerity, precision, and professional ethics. She paid tribute to families, acknowledging parents as “the light on our path, whose prayers and encouragement carried us through every moment of fatigue and success.”
Addressing her fellow graduates, she affirmed that this milestone marks not an ending but “the beginning of a new journey, one in which we carry knowledge, values, and an ambition that knows no limits.” She called on her peers to continue serving the nation with dedication, creativity, and determination, contributing to a future that reflects Oman’s pride and promise.
This year, 62 doctoral candidates received their degrees across the Colleges of Medicine and Health Sciences, Agricultural and Marine Sciences, Science, Engineering, Education, Arts and Social Sciences, and Economics and Political Science. The ceremony then continued with the awarding of Master’s degrees to 458 graduates from these colleges as well as the Colleges of Nursing and Law.
Following the postgraduate segment, certificates were presented to Bachelor’s graduates from the scientific colleges. These included 157 graduates from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, 141 from Nursing, 177 from Agricultural and Marine Sciences, 380 from Science, and 337 from Engineering.
The evening concluded with expressions of pride in the graduates’ accomplishments and aspirations for their continued contributions to national development.
