SQU and MGIMO Organise a Seminar on Islamic Finance
The College of Economics and Political Science and the International Cooperation Office, in collaboration with the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), organised a seminar titled “Islamic Finance and Prospects for Investment Partnership between the Sultanate of Oman and the Russian Federation.” The event was held at the College’s Seminar Room.
The seminar was attended by Dr. Al-Mukhtar bin Saif Al-Abri, Dean of the College, along with faculty members from SQU and MGIMO, as well as a number of SQU and Russian students.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Al-Abri highlighted the importance of such academic exchanges in strengthening mutual understanding and fostering collaborative research between the two institutions.
Professor Alena Dolgova from MGIMO delivered a presentation on Islamic finance and investment opportunities between Oman and Russia, exploring potential avenues for economic cooperation.
This was followed by a presentation from Professor Saeed bin Mubarak Al-Muharrami, who discussed concepts, objectives, and challenges of Islamic finance at both local and global levels. He also shed light on Oman’s unique experience with Islamic finance, addressing its religious, cultural, and legal dimensions.
The seminar concluded with a panel discussion chaired by Dr. Syed Mujahid Hussain, Head of the Department of Economics and Finance. The session focused on Islamic finance frameworks, legal structures, and various financing tools used in the Sultanate of Oman.
The event provided a valuable platform for academic dialogue and collaboration, reflecting SQU’s ongoing commitment to enhancing international partnerships and promoting cross-cultural understanding in the field of economics and finance.
