A student group at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) organized an exhibition of the Ottoman civilization entitled "Tughra" in the presence of H.E. Ayse Sozen Usluer, Turkish Ambassador to Oman and a number of academics, staff and students at the Student Services Center of SQU.

With Constantinople as its capital and control of lands around the Mediterranean basin, the Ottoman Empire was at the centre of interactions between the Eastern and Western between the 14th and early 20th centuries. The literal translation of Tughra is “the signature of a Sultan”. Through the five pillars of this exhibition, the History and Archaeology Group of the Deanship of Student Affairs took the visitors to the streets, palaces, and mosques of the Ottoman civilization.

The pillars of the exhibition shed light on several aspects of the Ottoman Empire, including the establishment and prosperity of the Empire and its fall after several centuries. The exhibition also focused on Turkish language, scientists and leaders of Sufism, Ottoman architecture and modern Turkey and the remnants of the Ottoman Empire in Turkey in addition to the most famous Turkish cuisine and some well-known types of Turkish coffee. The 'Tughra' exhibition will run until 4 December with a series of accompanying activities.
