SQU Student Wins ‘Best Young Medical Researcher’ Award

Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Lawati, a final-year student at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, has won the ‘Best Young Medical Researcher’ award at the Asia Global Research Initiative (AGRI) 2025 competition, one of the most prestigious awards in global scientific research. He secured this accolade after competing against more than 500 international researchers. Al-Lawati received this honour in recognition of his pioneering research in the medical field, which is distinguished by scientific innovation and academic excellence.

“This award is not only a personal achievement but also a testament to the support of my teachers and the innovative system at SQU,” said Abdullah. “I aspire to inspire young Omanis to engage in research that addresses global challenges.”

Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Lawati has also published 22 scientific research papers in leading international journals with high impact factors. His research spans critical fields such as cancer tumours, artificial intelligence, and public health policies. He has additionally won numerous awards at international conferences in Canada, Bulgaria, India, and the UAE, demonstrating his ability to translate research into practical solutions.

It is worth noting that the Asia Global Research Initiative (AGRI) was established in Tokyo, Japan, in 2010. It is a global organisation dedicated to supporting multidisciplinary research and recognising exceptional talent worldwide. Its annual awards honour researchers who excel in innovative, methodologically sound research with the potential to create societal impact. Al-Lawati’s victory underscores Oman’s growing role in the global scientific arena and reflects SQU’s commitment to fostering distinguished researchers.
