Chemical Engineering Forum Held

The 14th Chemical Engineering Forum organized by the Chemical Engineering Society at the College of Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University commenced on Sunday, 17 February 2019 under the patronage of Prof. Ali Huwaishal Al-Shuaili, SQU Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administrative & Financial Affairs. The Forum titled “Agora, where things gather” focusses on a number of industries and products related to chemical engineering.

The corners of the event addresses several industries other than oil and gas industry where chemical and process engineers work. They spread information on application of chemical engineering in the production of medicine, plastic, energy drinks, coal, detergents, perfumes and other products. Chemical engineering students from different universities and colleges in the Sultanate gather in the Chemical Engineering Forum to exchange experiences and knowledge in their subject besides sharing their latest ideas and projects in different fields of chemical and process engineering. This year, students from the University of Nizwa, Dhofar University and Higher College of Technology are participating in the event.

Chemical engineering forum is the most important event organized by the Chemical Engineering Society, a student group, at SQU. In addition to the exhibition, the event consists of “Chem-E-Car” competition and “Engineering Challenge”. “Chem-E-Car” competition seesk to develp student’s innovation skills and create an atmosphere for competition and entertainment.  Designing and producing a car powered by a chemical reaction is required to participate in this competition. The Engineering Challenge, meant for university students in the Sultanate, involves a challenge in which participants are required to find the right solution to the challenge in the shortest possible time by following the rules of the competition.
