Award for Excellence in Child Health Nursing

Dr. Erna Judith Roach, Assistant Professor in the Department of Maternity and Child Health, College of Nursing, SQU,  has received an Award for Excellence in Child Health Nursing, from the Venus International Foundation on 29th September 2018 during the 1st Annual Healthcare Meet held at Le Royal Meridian, Chennai city, India.  The award was given in recognition for her performance which is ‘over and above’ the standard expected in the advancement of health care, patient safety and quality, which ultimately improved people’s lives.

Dr. Erna Judith Roach joined College of Nursing, Sultan Qaboos University in April 2014, as Assistant Professor in the Maternal and Child Health Department. She served as Assistant Dean for Post Graduate Studies and Research from September 2014 to August 2017 in the College of Nursing, SQU. During her term she was instrumental in commencing the first Master of Science in Nursing program at College of Nursing, SQU, which is also the first Master’s program in Nursing in the Sultanate of Oman. She has also been the co-chair of the College Accreditation Committee when the college was accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, USA.

Dr. Roach’s research interests are in promoting the health of pregnant women, children, and aging populations; infection control and patient safety; and in developing and testing innovative teaching learning strategies. She is a Co- principal investigator on a few funded research projects at College of Nursing, Sultan Qaboos University. She has presented research papers at International Conferences and won awards. Her scientific work has led to her inclusion on the editorial board and as reviewer for various indexed scientific journals. She has authored and co-authored a number of scientific peer reviewed manuscripts. She holds membership in several National and International Organizations including (but not limited to) The Sigma Theta Tau International, USA, National League for Nurses, USA, Oman Cancer Association, Sultanate of Oman, and Women in Science: panel of Indian Academy of Sciences, India. She has also organized and participated in community activities conducted by the Maternal and Child Health Department.
