Sultan Qaboos University announced the process for the Student Advisory Council election for its fourth session for the academic year (2018/2019). Filing of nominations to the Council will commence on Monday, 10 September 2018.
Prof. Amer Bin Ali Al Rawas, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Community Services, and the head of the election committee, said: “we are pleased with the achievements of the Council in its previous sessions, especially its participation in the formulation of the academic policies at the university and the representation of students in the councils and committees. He lauded the active role of the Council in enhancing the services and student activities that make the student environment more active”. He added that the Student Advisory Council has become one of the active elements that has a great role in the quality of the educational, research and service process at Sultan Qaboos University by providing opinions, ideas and initiatives to enhance the educational process and create a stimulating environment for students. “We hope that the current session would succeed and achieve the desired goals. Further, our meetings with students are very optimistic in strengthening the Council's roles”.
The election process will continue for two weeks, during which time the candidacy, publicity, and results forms will be received. The Deanship of Student Affairs will supervise the elections. The student council includes 17 members elected annually by university students, and contributes to develop student life from the academic and service aspects, activities and initiatives as well as seeks to improve and develop the educational and research process and services provided to students. The Council plays a key role in developing the spirit of social work, supporting the scientific method of thinking, developing the skill of dialogue, respecting the other opinion, and communication skills.
The Council also follow up students' issues and awareness, preserves their achievements, and works to solve their problems and raise the level of student activity in scientific, cultural, social, sports, artistic and other fields.
The organizational structure of the Student Advisory Council includes the President of the Council and the Vice-President, as well as the Chairmen of the following committees: the Academic Committee, the Student Services Committee, the Activities and Initiatives Committee, and the Secretary of the Council.
