SQU Team Wins Robot Championship

The EVO 3 team from the College of Engineering, Sultan Qaboos University, won the Sultanate Champion title in the robotics competition for universities (VEX U) which was held as part of the 8th Technical Festival. Six teams from different universities in the Sultanate participated in the competition which was organized by the Mechatronics Group in collaboration with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)-Oman Chapter.

SQU team will represent the Sultanate at the World Championship in Kentucky, USA, on April 24-28, with the participation of 85 teams from different countries around the world. The team designed and built robot entirely, including 11 engines, smart controller and a solid mechanical structure.

The winning team comprised of Qasim Al Yafei, Zaharan Al Nabhani and Murshid Al Riyami under the supervision of Dr. Ashraf Saleem, Assistant professor, from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Engineering at SQU.

In addition, the Volcano team from Mechatronics Engineering, College of Engineering received the Creativity Award in this competition. The team comprised of Salem Al-Sanani, Mohammed Al Balushi, Walid Al Mawali, Ahmad Al Nabi, Bassam Al Naabi and Mohammed Al Balushi.
