Conference Discusses Risk Management Practices

The Risk Management Office at Sultan Qaboos University organized the Risk Management Conference under the patronage of Sheikh Dr. Al Khattab bin Ghalib Al-Hinai, Deputy Chairman of the State Council. The conference lasted until 21 of February 2018. As many as 350 participants presented their papers at the conference from different countries. The conference focused on three themes; Academic Risk Management in Higher Education Institutions, Health, Safety and Environment practices and Crisis and Disaster Management.

The conference provided an opportunity to discuss topics on risk management practices, lessons learned and emerging issues with a broad spectrum of participants from the MENA Region as well as the global organizations. In addition, it highlighted the most important risks faced by Higher Education Institutions, public and private sector, risks facing the community, including the risks of social networks, electronic security, investment risks, financial risks and risks of job seekers. The conference addressed challenges facing institutions in today’s rapidly changing environment.

Three workshops were held on the sidelines the conference. The topics are first aid, how to deal with chemicals, and safety in transportation.  During the opening ceremony an intuitive of 100 Risk Management Educational Videos were launched. In each video the answer of one risk management question is provided by Dr David Hillson from the Risk Doctor. After watching the videos, viewers could grasp basic risk management principles. The main purpose of the videos is to fulfil the vision of the Risk Management Office in Sultan Qaboos University, which is building risk culture by spreading awareness, grasping risk principles and improving the knowledge in risk management.
