The University has launched the awareness campaign ‘Our Values, Our Digital Identity’, under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda bin Majid Al Said, the Vice-Chancellor.
The campaign is organised in partnership with the Department of Sociology and Social Work at the College of Arts and Social Sciences, the Seeb Parents’ Council and the Citizenship Cultural Salon, with the participation of relevant institutions concerned with values, identity, upbringing and digital citizenship.
Speaking at the launch, Sheikh Ahmed bin Ali Al-Shehhi, Wali of Seeb, said the campaign addresses the challenges created by rapid digital transformation, stressing the shared responsibility of families, schools, universities and community institutions in promoting responsible digital citizenship.
Dr. Wafa bint Said Al-Mamari, Head of the Department of Sociology and Social Work, highlighted the importance of strengthening values and ethics among young people, noting that digital citizenship should be grounded in knowledge, responsibility and cultural identity.
The campaign aims to promote Omani values and identity in the digital environment, encourage safe and responsible use of technology, raise awareness of privacy and digital identity, and address risks including cyberbullying, blackmail and harmful content. It also seeks to develop critical thinking when dealing with digital information.
Based on belonging, safety, credibility, respect, responsibility, dialogue and balance, the campaign promotes the idea that an individual’s digital presence should reflect their values and responsible behaviour in society.
The six-month campaign will initially be implemented in four schools, targeting 500 students and 140 parents through awareness, interactive, school-based and community activities.
The launch forum also featured a short theatrical performance, Thieves of Colours, presented by students from Najiyyah bint Amer Al-Hajri School, an accompanying exhibition, and a panel discussion on digital upbringing and the impact of social media on values.
