HydroGenix Wins Best Student Company Award

24 Sep, 2026 |

SQU’s student company HydroGenix has won the Best Student Company award in the universities and colleges category at the closing ceremony of Injaz Oman’s Company Programme and Competition.

The programme saw the participation of 350 student companies presenting a range of projects aligned with economic diversification and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. A total of 22 student companies from the universities and colleges and schools categories advanced to the final stage of the competition, competing for awards for Best Student Company, Best Innovative Product, Best Sustainable Product and Best Visual Advertisement.

Over the past two decades, around 500,000 people have benefited from Injaz Oman’s programmes, including approximately 100,000 beneficiaries in a single year. The organisation has also registered more than 350 companies and helped create over 1,000 job opportunities.

HydroGenix specialises in designing and manufacturing innovative tanks for the transportation and storage of liquid green hydrogen, with the aim of supporting the transition towards clean and efficient energy and building a more sustainable future. The company will represent the Sultanate of Oman and SQU at the Injaz Al-Arab competition in Cairo next November.

Liquid green hydrogen presents challenges in terms of safe transportation, prompting the use of ammonia as a carrier. This requires costly energy-intensive processes to break down the ammonia, reducing overall efficiency.

SQU’s student company Tamahan won the Best Visual Advertisement award in the universities and colleges category.

The Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at SQU has overseen the implementation of the Company Programme and Competition at the University since 2012. The Centre provides annual support to participating student companies throughout the various stages of their work. This includes mentoring teams through specialists and supervisors, providing access to laboratories and facilities to help them develop their ideas and test their products, and guiding them in presenting their projects and developing their business models.

This support gives students practical experience in establishing companies and managing their projects.
