Blood Donation Awareness Event Held in Matrah

13 Aug, 2026 |

Amid an atmosphere of awareness and community engagement, the Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH) of the Medical Students Community (MedSCO) at SQU organised an awareness event highlighting the importance of blood donation. The event was held in the forecourt of Matrah Souq in collaboration with the Directorate General of Projects at Muscat Municipality and the Blood Bank at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, as part of preparations for the main blood donation campaign at Al Araimi Boulevard.

Matrah was chosen to provide the campaign with an opportunity to reach diverse segments of the community. The event attracted visitors from a wide range of age groups and nationalities, enabling the organisers to engage directly with different members of the community.

Visitors raised a variety of questions about the blood donation process, eligibility requirements and available donation locations, as well as the importance of blood donation and its role in supporting patients in need. The event featured awareness booths covering blood donation, eligibility requirements and designated donation centres, alongside activities and small giveaways that attracted children and families and added an interactive dimension to the awareness initiative.

The event was more than an opportunity to introduce the public to blood donation; it served as an awareness day and a preliminary launch for the larger campaign scheduled to take place at Al Araimi Boulevard on 26 August 2026. It also provided an opportunity to strengthen communication with the community and introduce the mission of MedSCO and its upcoming activities.

Raising public awareness of blood donation is important in establishing it as a humanitarian practice and a shared social responsibility, through which individuals and communities recognise the vital role of blood donation in saving lives. Every donation may give a patient a new chance at life, while promoting this culture contributes to building a more aware and supportive society, one that recognises that just a few minutes of giving can make an immeasurable difference.
