As part of its commitment to enriching students’ practical learning experiences, the International Cooperation Office, in cooperation with SOHAR Port and Freezone, coordinated a field trip for students from the College of Arts and Social Science and the College of Economics and Political Science.

The visit was organised under the existing Letter of Agreement between SQU and SOHAR Port and Freezone, which aims to foster cooperation in areas of mutual interest and enhance students’ exposure to the professional environment.

The programme provided participants with an introductory tour of SOHAR Port and Freezone’s integrated logistics and industrial ecosystem, offering first-hand insight into a leading economic and trade hub in Oman. Students also took part in a series of project management workshops delivered by SQU alumni currently employed at the port, highlighting the value of applying academic knowledge in professional settings.

The educational programme featured presentations on Sohar Port’s role in connecting Oman to global markets, initiatives to develop future talent through learning, growth and professional development, and the importance of project management skills across a wide range of careers. Students also heard an inspiring success story from an SQU graduate, who shared their career journey and experiences working at the port and freezone.

The field trip reflects SQU’s continuous efforts to strengthen partnerships with industry partnerships with industry and provide students with meaningful opportunities to engage with leading companies and institutions, developing their knowledge, skills and professional perspectives to prepare them for the future.
