Sultan Qaboos University has signed a Letter of Agreement with ESBAAR Artificial Intelligence and Drones company to establish a strategic partnership aimed at advancing research, innovation and technological development through the application of AI-powered solutions.

The letter was signed on behalf of SQU by Prof. Salim bin Hamoud Al-Harthi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Community Service, and on behalf of ESBAAR Artificial Intelligence and Drones by Eng. Abdullah bin Sulaiman Al-Wahaibi, Chief Executive Officer.

The cooperation reflects a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration between academia and industry while supporting Oman’s growing AI and advanced technology sectors. Through this cooperation, the two institutions will cooperate to foster innovation, develop practical technological solutions and create opportunities for knowledge exchange and capacity building.

The cooperation will encompass a range of joint initiatives, including the organisation and hosting of conferences and symposia that will bring together researchers, industry leaders and stakeholders to encourage collaboration and promote the exchange of knowledge. The partnership will also include workshops designed to engage the wider community and facilitate learning, innovation and professional development.

In addition, students will benefit from exchange visits to ESBAAR’s operational sites and offices, where they will have the opportunity to observe drone operations and flight demonstrations, gaining valuable practical insights into emerging technologies.

The agreement also provides for the development of specialised training programmes to enhance participants' technical skills and professional competencies in AI and drone technologies.

Research will form a central pillar of the cooperation, with both parties undertaking joint research initiatives that support faculty members and students alike. These projects are expected to contribute to technological advancement while addressing real-world challenges through innovative AI-driven solutions.

The agreement underscores SQU’s ongoing commitment to strengthening partnerships with the private sector, promoting applied research and preparing graduates with the knowledge and practical experience needed to contribute to Oman’s knowledge-based economy and digital transformation.
