SQU Makes Remarkable Progress in 2026 QS Rankings by Subject

Sultan Qaboos University has achieved notable progress in the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject, a milestone that reflects the quality of its academic programmes and strengthens its position among the world’s leading universities.

This year’s ranking evaluated 6,273 universities from around the world, with 1,908 of them included in the largest edition to date, covering 55 specific subjects across five main fields.

 

SQU saw growth in the number of ranked programmes, rising to 20 programmes compared to 17 in 2025, a clear indicator of its expanding academic presence globally. The number of programmes ranked among the world’s top 500 also increased from 15 to 19, reflecting qualitative improvements in academic performance.

At the level of advanced disciplines, the university achieved a prominent presence among the top 50 global subjects. Petroleum Engineering advanced to 17th place worldwide from 25th, Nursing rose to 25th from 32nd, and Library Management ranked 44th globally.

 

The QS subject rankings are based on a set of global indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations, the H-index, and international research network, with weights varying according to the nature of each subject.

This continuous progress underscores the University’s ability to enhance the quality of education and research and compete at the global level, in line with its strategic aspirations for excellence and leadership.
