On Monday, 17 February 2020, Sultan Qaboos University Council held its second meeting for the academic year 2019/2020 at the University Council Meeting Hall, under the chairmanship of HE Dr. Rawya bint Saud Al Busaidi, Minister of Higher Education, and Chairperson of the University Council. The meeting was attended by the distinguished members of the council.

The Chairperson of the University Council began the meeting by expressing the sincere condolences on behalf of the Council and all the members of Sultan Qaboos University on the death of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur, May his soul rest in peace. The University and the Sultanate will continue the blessed renaissance march under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq bin Taimur.
The council reviewed the report on the university’s graduate studies programs and its role in raising the academic level to cope its strategic plan 2016-2040 and Oman’s vision 2040.

Further, the council approved the change of the name of the department of “Crop Science" and the academic programs in the College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences as "Plant Science", as well as the name of change of the “Environmental Biology program (the Arabic term) offered by the College of Science.

The Council reviewed the results of the institutional report of Sultan Qaboos University, and the procedures taken by the university in order to advance the academic, research, service and other related fields.
