Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Lawati, an intern doctor at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, has won the award for Best Research Poster in the printed posters category during the 10th Surgery – Updates Conference, held from 19 to 20 December 2025. The event was organised by the Oman Surgical Society at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The conference witnessed wide scientific participation, with around 400 attendees and a total of 75 research posters, both printed and electronic. It is considered one of the leading annual surgical conferences in the Sultanate of Oman, convened each year and attracting surgeons and researchers from across the GCC and the world.

Participants included surgeons and researchers from several countries, among them the United Kingdom, Kuwait, and Jordan, in addition to others.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Lawati’s research team presented 13 scientific papers during the conference. Of these, Dr. Abdullah personally presented five, in collaboration with fellow medical students from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, alongside Omani medical students studying in Ireland, as well as participating physicians within the research group.

The winning research was completed under the supervision of Dr. Srijit Das from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences. This achievement highlights the distinguished research efforts of Dr. Abdullah Al-Lawati and his team, reflecting the active scientific presence of young medical professionals in academic and research arenas.
