Sultan Qaboos University has signed a Letter of Cooperation with Worley Oman Engineering Company to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry in the fields of education, training, and scientific research across various disciplines.

The cooperation reflects both SQU and Worley Oman’s shared commitment to supporting national development priorities, particularly in preparing highly skilled graduates who are equipped to meet labour market needs.

Worley Oman Engineering is a leading global provider of professional project and asset services in the energy, chemicals, and resources sectors. The company delivers engineering, procurement, and construction projects, in addition to offering a wide range of consultancy and advisory services.

As part of its In-Country Value initiatives, Worley Oman Engineering is committed to developing the skills of the national workforce. This is achieved through various programmes, including technical and non-technical on-the-job training opportunities for students in different engineering disciplines.

Through this letter, a joint action plan covering training, scientific research, and knowledge exchange will be implemented, ensuring that agreed objectives are achieved efficiently and effectively. Worley Oman Engineering will allocate on-the-job training opportunities for a number of students, tailored to specific engineering departments. The letter also places strong emphasis on knowledge transfer, whereby SQU will review the company’s areas of expertise and facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions delivered by Worley’s subject matter experts to SQU faculty members, who will then integrate this expertise into their teaching. In addition, SQU will conduct specialised workshops on campus where relevant.

The letter was signed on behalf of SQU by Prof. Salim bin Hamoud Al-Harthi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Community Services. Worley Oman Engineering was represented by Patrick Tranter, Vice President.
