SQU Researchers Shine at 12th National Research Awards
The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation has announced the recognition of 13 published research papers at the 12th edition of the National Scientific Research Award, held at Al Bustan Palace Hotel in Muscat.
The awards were presented as part of the 12th Annual Researchers’ Forum, under the theme “Research Published, Visions Realised”, held under the patronage of Her Highness Sayyida Mayyan bint Shihab Al Said, in the presence of several dignitaries and honoured guests.
From Sultan Qaboos University, the winners of the 2025 National Scientific Research Award included Professor Haider bin Ahmed Al-Lawati in the PhD category for Environment and Vital Resources for his paper entitled “An Integrated Analytical Device Based on Paper Lab Technology for Simple Extraction and Estimation of Total Phenolic Content in Olive Oil Samples”. In the PhD category for Education and Human Resources, Dr. Al-Saeed Saad Al-Shami was recognised for his work “Perceptions on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence Tools in Higher Education Institutions: Insights from Students and Academics at Sultan Qaboos University”. In the Energy and Industry sector, Dr. Mohammed Abdul Qayyum won for his study “Two-Phase Expansion Cooling Cycles with Pre-Cooling Using Carbon Dioxide for Small-Scale Offshore Natural Gas Liquefaction: Energy, Exergy, and Economic Assessment”. In the Emerging Researchers category for Culture and Basic Social Sciences, Dr. Anwaar bint Said Al-Maqbali was jointly awarded for her paper “Synthesis of Novel Molecules Containing a Triazoline Core Linked to a Functionalised Sugar, with Structural, Spectral, and Pharmacological Studies”.
This year, the award received a total of 284 submissions, including 175 from the PhD or equivalent category, Senior Specialists or above for medical doctors, and 109 from the emerging researchers category.
