Sultan Qaboos University is hosting the 8th Conference of the International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies, titled “Sustainable Translation in the Age of Knowledge Extraction, Generation, and (Re)Creation”, on Wednesday, under the patronage of Her Excellency Prof. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al-Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

Oman was selected to host this edition in recognition of its global reputation as a promoter of peace, intercultural dialogue, and understanding, particularly in the current regional and international context. Through hosting this international conference, SQU aims to foster global dialogue in the fields of translation studies, cultural communication, and research, which are experiencing remarkable international momentum.

The conference brings together a distinguished group of scholars, researchers, experts, faculty members, and students from 61 countries. It serves as a platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange, exploring the latest trends, theories, and practices in this vital field. Discussions will cover applications across diverse areas, including heritage preservation, peacebuilding, international understanding, knowledge transfer in medicine and public health, the promotion of justice within legal systems, tourism, media, international relations, and the strengthening of soft power in global diplomacy.

Alongside the conference, participants will engage in a variety of cultural, educational, and media activities. These include an exhibition on the sustainability of identity, heritage, and culture and the role of translation in this process, specialised seminars bringing together experts from Oman and abroad, an intensive media programme in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, and an educational and cultural programme developed with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, aimed at students from colleges and universities.
