The opening ceremony of the second edition of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week was held on the evening of Monday, October 27, 2025, at Sultan Qaboos University. Organized by the University’s Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer, the event took place under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Dr Fahad Bin Al Julanda Al Said, SQU Vice Chancellor. It brought together a distinguished gathering of officials, academics, students, and enthusiasts in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr Adel bin Saeed Al Busaidi, Director of the Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer, delivered a speech highlighting that the organization of the week reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and supporting entrepreneurial initiatives. He noted that through its diverse programs and initiatives, the University aims to empower Omani youth to transform their creative ideas into promising investment opportunities, thereby contributing to the achievement of sustainable national development.
He noted that the “Hemtech” program is one of the most prominent initiatives embodying this vision, as it aims to support and fund innovative projects. He explained that the previous edition of the program attracted more than 400 participants, with one of the projects receiving support amounting to 40,000 Omani rials. He affirmed the university’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, emphasizing that such initiatives are a testament to the energy and creativity of Omani youth.
The opening ceremony featured a series of introductory visual presentations highlighting the key statistics and achievements from the first edition of Innovation Week. The presentations also showcased the university’s ongoing efforts in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, as well as its pivotal role in developing an integrated research and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The ceremony also highlighted the preliminary results of the winning ideas from the second edition of the FursaTech program. The showcased innovations covered a wide range of fields, including health technology, marine and agricultural technology, educational technology, communications technology, and logistics technology.
The ceremony concluded with His Highness Sayyid Dr Fahad Bin Al Julanda Al Said honoring the participants and supporters of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week, in recognition of their contributions to advancing the university’s efforts to cultivate a thriving environment for innovation and entrepreneurship. The recognition also underscored the university’s position as a leading academic institution dedicated to empowering youth and turning innovative ideas into pioneering national initiatives.
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week, continuing until November 6, features a series of events designed for university students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the local community with an interest in innovation. The week-long program aims to foster Oman’s innovation ecosystem and reinforce the university’s role in promoting a knowledge-based economy.
