The Omani Studies Centre, in collaboration with the Russian Embassy and several leading Russian universities, is organising the International Conference on the Historical and Developmental Dimensions of Omani–Russian Relations: Pathways to Future Collaboration, scheduled to take place from 20 to 22 April 2026.
The conference aims to offer a comprehensive examination of the historical evolution of Omani–Russian relations across political, economic, military, social, and cultural spheres. It will explore the roles of both nations in addressing pressing regional and global challenges such as sustainable development, climate change, conflicts, economic crises, food security, migration, and natural disasters. In addition, the conference will identify promising areas for bilateral cooperation in several sectors. Participants will also discuss the obstacles and challenges to enhancing partnerships and propose practical strategies to overcome them. A key objective is to raise public and stakeholder awareness in both countries of the historical and contemporary significance of these relations, while also promoting collaborative research and academic partnerships between higher education institutions in Oman and Russia.
The conference will address a wide range of themes, including the historical trajectories of Omani–Russian relations across political, economic, social, and cultural dimensions; the contributions of both countries to addressing regional and global issues such as sustainable development, security, climate change, and economic stability; and opportunities to strengthen cooperation in key sectors including tourism, industry, heritage, museums, trade, education, health, food security, transportation, infrastructure, urban and rural development, disaster management, and civil society development. Other themes focus on enhancing research collaboration and academic partnerships to support innovation and knowledge exchange, identifying and overcoming barriers to deeper bilateral engagement, and promoting public awareness and engagement through media, educational programmes, social platforms, and joint committees.
An accompanying exhibition will run alongside the conference, showcasing products and investment opportunities from Omani and Russian companies and highlighting avenues for sustainable cooperation and innovative ventures.
The deadline for abstract submission is 30 October 2025, while full papers are due by 1 February 2026.
