College of Law Organises 9th Conference on Legislation and Social Protection

14 Oct, 2025 |

The College of Law will launch its ninth conference on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, at the Maani Hotel, Muscat. This year’s conference is held under the theme “The Role of the Legislative System in Social Protection.”

The conference takes place amid significant legislative transformations in the Sultanate of Oman, most notably the issuance of the Social Protection Law and the Labour Law in 2023. It will feature rich scientific sessions presenting specialised legal research and studies delivered by a distinguished group of judges, academics, and legal researchers from Oman and abroad.

The conference seeks to achieve several key objectives, including analysing and developing national legislation related to social protection, reviewing international best practices, and contributing practical recommendations that support the sustainability of the legislative system while striking a balance between the requirements of development and social justice, in line with Oman Vision 2040.

Over the course of three sessions, the conference will address various themes examining social protection from civil and commercial, constitutional and criminal, and Sharia and procedural perspectives. It will also include a special session showcasing joint research projects by students from the College of Law.

The research presented will tackle contemporary legal issues that touch on the core of the social fabric. Topics include legal safeguards for the criminal protection of families against domestic violence, the legal framework for corporate social responsibility, and mechanisms to protect children’s financial rights arising from their activities on social media platforms. The conference will also offer innovative legal perspectives on the legislative protection of the rights of future generations, the development of flexible work systems, social protection within the Personal Status Law, and an analysis of the social dimension in compensation assessment and its impact on strengthening the societal safety net.
