A team of students from the College of Law at Sultan Qaboos University won first place in the inaugural edition of the Arab Moot Court Competition for Human Rights, organised by the United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region. The competition was hosted by the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies in the State of Qatar.

39 teams from various Arab universities took part in the competition, with 11 teams qualifying for the preliminary in-person pleadings held in Qatar. After a series of pleadings, the SQU College of Law team advanced to the final round alongside the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies team. The SQU team secured first place and included students: Al-Miqdad bin Nasser Al-Qassabi, Muna bint Khalifa Al-Zidi, Reem bint Fahd Al-Amri, and Aseela bint Saif Al-Rashdi, under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Abdussalam Babek.

It is noteworthy that this competition is the first of its kind in the Arab region, bringing together more than fifty law students from Qatar, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Oman, Palestine, and Syria. It aims to develop their legal skills in advocacy and judicial argumentation through a realistic simulation of international and regional court procedures, with a focus on human rights issues.
