SQU Welcomes Delegation from the CAAR

Sultan Qaboos University received a delegation from the Council for Australian-Arab Relations, comprising Prof. Hala Zreiqat and Prof. Ali Abbas, academics in engineering from the University of Sydney, Australia. The delegation was welcomed by His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, the Vice-Chancellor.

During the meeting, both parties emphasised the importance of strengthening cultural and academic ties between SQU and Australian universities.

His Highness the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the University’s role in supporting Oman’s transformation towards a knowledge-based economy, in line with Oman Vision 2040. He noted that this transformation seeks to convert knowledge into practical products while preserving the country’s cultural authenticity and keeping pace with global trends. His Highness added that openness in the wider region has become a growing trend, presenting both opportunities and challenges.

Reflecting on the achievements of SQU’s alumni, His Highness observed that the University’s graduates today serve as leading figures in different sectors, making significant contributions to national development.

Prof. Hala Zreiqat underlined the value of empowering future generations by fostering innovation and advancing research. Moreover, Prof. Ali Abbas explained that in Australia, the knowledge-based economy is underpinned by entrepreneurship and sustainability. He described an integrated framework for successful entrepreneurship, which balances environmental stewardship and cultural preservation while advancing commerce and economic growth.

His Highness the Vice-Chancellor further pointed out the challenge of bridging the gap between generations and reaffirmed SQU’s commitment to preparing graduates who will play a central role in shaping Oman’s future.
