Sultan Qaboos University Council Holds 3rd Meeting this Year

The Sultan Qaboos University Council held its third meeting for the academic year 2024/2025 this morning, 30 April 2025, in the University Council Meeting Hall. The session was chaired by Her Excellency Professor Rahma bint Ibrahim Al-Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and Chairperson of the University Council, in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Chair of the Council, along with other members of the Council.

 

The Council reviewed recent developments across all sectors of the University, as well as the implementation status of its previous decisions and recommendations.

 

As part of ongoing efforts to expand academic disciplines and increase the number of academic programmes, the Council approved the Master of Science in Nursing programme offered by the College of Nursing as a unified programme designed to enhance expertise in critical and essential areas such as: adult critical care, specialised midwifery, oncology nursing, and paediatric nursing. The Council also approved the Master of Science in Digital and Innovative Marketing programme from the College of Economics and Political Science. These developments aim to strengthen the University’s academic standing, fulfil its strategic objectives, and provide the labour market with well-qualified and competent graduates.

 

The Council also approved amendments to the University's guide on honorary titles, including honorary professorships, adjunct academics and researchers, and honorary doctorates.

 

The meeting concluded with emphasis on the importance of enhancing academic performance and maintaining close oversight of the University’s plans and strategies.
