The Medical Students Community (MedSCO), in collaboration with the National University of Science and Technology and the Oman Medical Specialty Board, organised a public awareness campaign on skin diseases under the patronage of Her Highness Sayyida Dr. Taghreed bint Turki Al Said.
The event, held at The Village – Muscat, featured educational and interactive stations, a dedicated children's corner, and consultations by specialists, attracting both citizens and residents.
A number of doctors and students participated in the campaign, along with Injaz Oman, which took part for the first time to highlight its role in empowering youth.
The campaign aimed to raise community awareness of common skin conditions and to educate individuals about their symptoms, prevention, and treatment methods. It also sought to provide reliable information to minimise the side effects of improper medication use and to enhance understanding of how to manage such conditions effectively.
Mohammed bin Saif Al-Luwaihi, General Supervisor of the Awareness Campaign, emphasised the role of medical students in spreading awareness, describing them as the voice of prevention and a pillar of community health education. He highlighted the importance of correcting misconceptions about common dermatological conditions.
Aseel bint Muhanna Al-Mandhri, Head of the Campaign’s Organising Team, noted that community service is not merely an option, but a commitment that medical students carry with pride, one that extends from lecture halls to community spaces.
Dr. Anna Maria, Consultant Dermatologist at the University Medical City and campaign supervisor, noted that a key highlight of this second skin disease awareness campaign was the outstanding leadership and organisational skills demonstrated by the medical students. She praised their dedication to community education and awareness.
