SQU, Brno University of Technology to Tie-up on Teaching and Research

An academic delegation from Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic, headed by its Rector Prof. Petr Stepanek visited Sultan Qaboos University on Monday, 4 November 2019. The delegation was received by H.E. Dr. Ali bin Saud Al Bimani, the Vice Chancellor of SQU, and other top officials of SQU at the University’s Cultural Centre premises.

The two sides discussed the possibilities of academic and research collaboration between the two institutions in areas of mutual interest. The officials from the two universities agreed on exchange of staff and students and collaborative research in selected disciplines such as engineering, information systems and cyber security, science, and business management.

Dr. Ali Al Bimani and Prof. Petr Stepanek later signed a cooperation program between the two universities. Brno University of Technology (BUT) is ranked among the best world universities by QS University Rankings. It has eight faculties and three university institutes. BUT is home to 19000 students and is the largest technical university in the Czech Republic.

It is worth mentioning that on June 16, 2019, eighty students from SQU had visited BUT in Czech Republic as part of the annual overseas student trip organized by SQU. The aim of the visit was to enable SQU students and the European students to get to know each other. At that time, a discussion was held on possible cooperation between SQU and BUT concerning students and academic staff exchange.
