Have you ever stood at the university bus station, smartphone in hand, anxiously waiting for the bus to arrive? As the minutes pass, you grow increasingly exhausted, unable to walk due to the intense heat of the sun. Students expend both time and energy simply waiting for transport. This article explores the benefits of implementing a bus tracking system within the SQU campus.
Every day, female students at SQU endure long waits under the sun as they travel between their accommodation and college. Often, they are unsure whether a particular bus is heading to their destination. Moreover, inefficient bus routes lead to unnecessary fuel consumption, which contradicts Oman Vision 2040’s objective of improving air quality. Additionally, walking under the scorching sun is not advisable.
A bus tracking system would integrate a Global Positioning System (GPS) to provide real-time information about the exact location of each bus. This system would also display the estimated arrival time and a dynamic map using Google Maps. Furthermore, it would allow students to request a bus at designated stops. The system would be accessible via mobile applications, websites, and digital displays placed around the university campus.
Implementing such a system at SQU would save time, reduce fuel consumption, and provide peace of mind. It would also alleviate uncertainty and anxiety among students. Waiting for a bus can be stressful, especially when students are unsure of its arrival time. With real-time updates, they would have accurate information and even the ability to request a bus when needed.
Whether heading to class or returning to accommodation, knowing the exact bus arrival time would help students manage their schedules more effectively. A bus tracking system would revolutionise on-campus transportation, making it more efficient, reliable, and sustainable for everyone at SQU.
