The Sultan Qaboos University Council held its second meeting of the 2024–2025 academic year on the morning of Thursday, 20 February 2025. The meeting was chaired by Her Excellency Prof. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al-Mahrooqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation and Chairperson of the University Council, in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Chairperson of the University Council, along with their excellencies and Council members.

During the meeting, the Council reviewed developments across various university sectors and assessed the implementation of previous decisions and recommendations. As part of the University's ongoing efforts to expand academic disciplines, enhance its global ranking, and produce highly qualified graduates who meet labour market demands, the Council approved the introduction of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme at the College of Law, as well as a PhD in Operations Management and Supply Chains at the College of Economics and Political Science. Additionally, the Council approved the University’s Code of Ethical and Professional Conduct.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the importance of enhancing academic performance and closely monitoring the University’s strategic plans and initiatives.
