College of Nursing Celebrates Mental Health Day

On Tuesday, 8th October 2019, the Department of Community and Mental Health Nursing of the College of Nursing at Sultan Qaboos University, organized the World Mental Health Day celebration at Al Iqtan School, Halban village, Nakhal. The event was celebrated along with 9th-grade students and their teachers and parents of Al Iqtan School under the theme “Stress Management among Adolescents”.

Dr. Blessy Prabha Valsaraj, Head of the Community and Mental Health Department welcomed the audience and introduced the theme of World mental health Day 2019, which is “Mental health Promotion and Suicide Prevention.” Mr. Nasir Matani, a senior lecturer from the department addressed the gathering on common stressors among adolescents, identifying and managing them at its earliest. Ms. Khloud  Dameery, Ms. Rasha Abu Baker and Ms. Ibtisam Al Harthy, lecturers from the department, elaborated on study habits, exam preparation tips, stress management techniques, various coping strategies, and transforming failure to success. The 5th standard students from Al Iqtan School performed a role play on how to cope with everyday stress. Mr. Devan Prabudoss and Ms. Divya K Y, lecturers, coordinated reporting, audiovisual and logistics tasks.  As many as 60 participants attended the event.

The event was concluded by the distribution of chocolates with positive thought tags to all the participants. A token of gratitude was exchanged between the College of Nursing and Al Iqtan School.
