Oman’s First CubeSat Project at SQU

The faculty members and students from Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the College of Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University carried out Oman’s first non-commercial CubeSat project. The project was proposed and supervised by Dr. Amir Mohamed Abdulghani and Sayyid Dr. Samir Al Busaidi The team of students who worked on this project to design satellite’s payload consisted of Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Qamshaoui, Luay Khalifa Al Yaqoubi and Ali Abdulhamied Al Shamali. Prof. Hadj Bourdoucen (Dean, College of Engineering, SQU) and Dr. Mohammed Al Badi (Head of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, SQU) supported this project.

This project was displayed to the industry experts in order to demonstrate its functionalities during the Demo Day held in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at SQU. The project was in line with the College of Engineering’s vision to participate in the development of country’s progress in the field of space technology. College of Engineering’s group of Space technology and research includes several members of the faculty including Prof. Hadj Bourdoucen (Dean, CoENG-SQU), Sayyid Dr. Samir Al Busaidi (Group’s Chair), Dr. Amir Abdulghani.

Team is currently working on enhancing and integrating the remaining parts of this system in order to ensure its work in an integrated manner. These types of projects will aid to inculcate aspiration, in students at early stages in the Sultanate of Oman, to pursue careers in the field of space science and technology.
